How many 600 × 1200 mm pieces can you cut from a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet?

You can cut 4 pieces of 600 × 1200 mm from one 2440 × 1220 mm sheet with a 3 mm saw kerf and rotation allowed — 97% of the sheet ends up in parts. Sizes like this are typical for half-width panels.

The layout is a straight grid, 2 across and 2 along the length, long sides running with the sheet. At 97% this is an efficient size for the sheet — under 4% goes to kerf and offcut.

4 × 600 × 1200 mm on a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet, 3 mm kerf, rotation allowed. Dashed: largest offcut, a full-width 34 mm strip (1220 × 34 mm).

Kerf and grain

The 3 mm kerf doesn't cost a part here: 4 fit with or without it. There's still 1220 × 34 mm left over after the last cut.

Grain direction costs nothing here: with every part's 1200 mm side running along the sheet's 2440 mm length you still get 4, so you can keep the grain consistent for free.

FAQ

How many 600x1200 mm pieces can you cut from a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet?

How many 2440 × 1220 mm sheets do I need for 25 pieces at 600 × 1200 mm?

7 sheets. At 4 per sheet, the last one carries 1 part, leaving room for 3 more.

How this was worked out

EZNESTING's nesting engine (the same one the optimizer runs, in its default least-waste guillotine mode) was given more 600 × 1200 mm parts than could possibly fit on one 1220 × 2440 mm sheet, with a 3 mm kerf between parts and none at the factory edges. The parts it placed are the answer. That count is checked against simple grid layouts in both orientations (best of those: 4), so the page never shows less than a straight grid would give. No edge trim is assumed; if you skim 5 mm off a factory edge, re-run it in the optimizer with trim set.
