Import Your Cut List Instead of Retyping It

Most cut lists already exist somewhere: in a SketchUp model, a Fusion 360 design, a spreadsheet or a CAD drawing. EZNESTING has two importers under the Optimize button. CSV/Excel handles lists and DXF handles drawings. A few common exports are recognized by their columns, so they import without any mapping.

Pick your source below. Each guide has the exact export steps for that tool and a sample file to try.

What happens when you import

  • Columns are matched by name. Part Name, Qty, Length, Width and their common variants are mapped automatically. Anything unclear opens a one-time mapping step.
  • Known exports are rewritten for you. OpenCutList, Fusion 360 Export Cutlist and CutList Optimizer-style CSVs are recognized from their column titles, and the import shows which one it found.
  • Units come with the data. `720mm`, `23 5/8"`, `1' 11 5/8"`, `length (cm)` and DXF drawing units are all converted, so a centimetre model isn't read as millimetres.
  • You check before anything changes. A preview lists the rows and flags problems, such as a missing size or text in a number column, by row.

After the import: stock, materials and limits

Imports bring in parts. You still add the sheets or lengths to cut them from, unless you use an Excel workbook with a Stock Sheets worksheet.

If the parts carry a material (OpenCutList and Fusion exports usually do), EZNESTING nests each part only on stock with the same material name. Give your stock the matching name, or turn on Ignore material column in Settings to put everything on one stock.

Free jobs are limited to up to 5 part sizes and 3 stock sizes per job. Each imported row is one part size, whatever its quantity.

What isn't imported

  • Model files (.skp, .f3d, .step). Export a list or a DXF from your CAD program instead.
  • PDFs and photos of cut lists. Copy the table into a spreadsheet first.
  • Cutlist Evo's tab-separated .txt export. Save it as .csv first.
  • Edge banding and grain from OpenCutList or Fusion exports. Set them on the parts after importing.

EZNESTING nests rectangular parts with guillotine cuts. Shaped parts from a DXF are placed by their bounding rectangle.

Frequently asked questions

Which file formats does EZNESTING import?
CSV (comma, semicolon or tab), Excel .xlsx and .xlsm, and DXF. Exports from OpenCutList, the Fusion 360 Export Cutlist add-in and CutList Optimizer-style CSVs are recognized automatically.
Can I import from SketchUp?
Yes, through the free OpenCutList extension. Export its Parts List as CSV and drop the file on the CSV/Excel import.
Can I import from Fusion 360?
Yes. Use the free Export Cutlist add-in with the CSV format for a parts list, or save sketches as DXF for outlines.
Do I need an account to import?
No. Import and optimize work in the browser without signing up.
